There is no “startup downfall” just as there is no “MNC downfall”. There is a slowdown in hiring everywhere due to troubles in European and Middle East markets.

To decide between a startup offer and an MNC offer, consider the following:

  1. What kind of people are you going to work with? This is the one you should pay the most attention to when deciding between offers.
  2. How much learning is possible on the job? This is the second most important criterion. Benefits, salaries must all be secondary in your first job.
  3. Where is your job offer? If you get to work in certain places [such Bangalore, Mumbai or Delhi] you get to have faster growth options than in certain other places.
  4. 10 years from now, you want to be an entrepreneur or grow up the corporate ladder? Most people can be one or the other. The choice you pick up now will either aid/hinder your long term goal.
  5. Do you like order or creativity? If you prefer the former — an MNC job. If latter, a startup. A startup is risky, chaotic, but also satisfying. An MNC job is often boring and static, but also provides better benefits, predictability and stability.
